Cut, Carat, Clarity Color plus a blue Diamond.

These are the parameter by which gemstones are judged. All of them come from the same source, the mine. The gems come in various shapes, cut, forms and combinations.

A ring, bracelet, pendant or necklace might be in a combination with emeralds, ruby, sapphires or other gemstone. Some people buy loose diamonds as an investment. The stone is cut in various forms, actually there are many artistic cuts to form a great precious stone and some of them are patented such as the Asscher Cut.

After the shape is determined the facet are polished and arranged. Very popular cuts this days are is Asscher cut and Princess cut, this are square-shaped diamonds with different facet arrangements, especially beautiful and valuable as a pink or blue diamond and, most diamonds in a jewelry shop are certified diamonds.

About 80% of world production is not for jewelry because of lack of

transparency or nontransparent colors, those are used in various industrial applications. This proportion will find a constantly increasing industrial use in a variety of techniques. These stones are industrial diamonds. The weight is measured in carats and one carat is 0.200 gram equivalent.

Some basics about color diamonds

A diamond (in Greek language..shine through "diaphainein" and "adamantos" the Invincible) is a form of carbon and came into existence by extremely high pressure nature applied to carbon. The same process is done today in the lab to produce created diamonds; this brings number 10 on the Moh hardness scale making it the hardest natural mineral. The hardness is different on its individual crystal facet’s., this is the reason to make it possible to grind with other diamonds. The stone has a cubic crystal system, which is in pure state transparent (clear). But it is very often colored by impurities.

These impurities make almost all colors available: Very rare are transparent stones using pure tones, such as green, blue, purple, pink, brown and yellow, this are also called fancy colors, black is caused by a complete absorption of light as a result of numerous dark inclusions. Inclusion are rather normal, the inclusions can be very small, visible only by a microscope or magnifying glass and some with the eye. Most are mineral inclusions, e.g. other small stones or materials present when the diamonds were formed. Cracks are also considered as inclusions and often of natural origin, for example, when deposits were subjected to stress by geological processes.

Shown in the picture right side is probably the most exotic collection visible, it's at the top of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Myanmar, the pics shows only a small part of it.

Where and how to buy diamonds, this is not e easy task in particular when prices move into the higher 4 or 5 digit range. The first question when buying diamonds is can I trust the seller because usually the buyer has no much idea about the stones when buying some jewelry or loose stones, also don’t trust “certificates” they often are not worth the paper they are written on. It is necessary to check the precious stone at an independent lab. The introduction of online sale where it is impossible to verify anything until the precious item is in the hand of the buyer opened another door for some problem buy, read more.

Color diamonds come

in almost all shades of a rainbow, as a pink diamond, red, blue, yellow and more or just plain and flawless, actually totally flawless does exist only in very small stone sizes, every

precious stone of a substantial size has some flaws, this is also a good indication if the stone is a created diamond from the lab since those are usually flawless.

Diamond cut

Emerald shape is a rectangle cut with longer, flat facets. Pear-shaped and tear-shaped diamonds are popular as pendants. Another diamonds cut is the marquise cut, which can optimize the carat weight of a stone with its longer and flatter cut, there is also cushion cut and round brilliant cut. Most diamonds, including square and emerald cut, have rounded or cut-off corners since contrary to popular belief, the stone can chip or scratch if it knocks against something.

Very special and beautiful is a blue diamond

as you can see further below but finally all this also depends on the diamonds cut and the jewelry ring the gem is set. With the right blue diamond cut a stone becomes a piece of desire, but it also needs beautiful color and the right weight in carat which is sometimes a blue colored stone, but not often because the price tag is always very high, combined with base materials such as platinum or rather yellow or white gold.

Maybe a white gold necklace, jewelry and pearls. Rings and pendants are probably the most created blue diamond jewelry and a pink one is one of the ultimate gifts.

The stone got the name from his hardness, in Greek language its “adamas” or the invincible, in fact, there is nothing on earth harder. The polishing hardness is about 140 times the hardness of ruby and sapphire, the next hardest

precious stones after diamonds. However, the hardness of diamonds on the various crystals differs, herein lays the possibility to grind, cut and polish with other diamonds.

Some diamond history is useful to understand the whole subject. Since diamonds are really very old and interesting objects there is plenty of history around it, read more

Because of the perfect cleavage this precious stone should not be pushed against a other hard edge since the stone can break. To chemical reagents the stone is generally insensitive. High temperatures on the other hand can cauterize the stone. Hence special care in solders is needed when producing diamond jewelry.

The typical brilliance creates stunning optical effects and the hardness and rarity the diamond is also known as the king of gems and used since ancient times for decorative purposes such as jewelry as you can see at Sapphires Diamonds and Pearl Jewelry and the Diamond brooch with Star Sapphire. Color diamonds command a high price at auction. Christie's sold a much smaller 13.39 carat blue diamond for $8.9 million, a great collection of beautiful diamond pendants jewelry at Ross- Simons.

Yellow diamonds are in this days,

mounted in a beautiful ring, as a pendant, diamond earrings or just a solitaire it looks real good, together with some gold or platinum  they fetch high prices, the same is with a pink diamond.

A 603 carat white diamond, the Lesotho Promise was sold in Antwerp for US$12.36 million. The uncut diamond, which has been named The Lesotho Promise, is the largest gem-quality diamond found this century and ranks as the 15th largest diamond ever found

There are diamond mines on all continents with variable output and quality and different methods of mining. Most diamond stones produced are used for industrial purposes. The stone was recovered at Letseng mines in Lesotho, southern Africa. The Mine is owned and operated by Gem Diamond Mining Company of Africa Ltd with its 30%

partner the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho, more.

Graff Jewelers submitted the winning bid of US$12.36 million. for the Lesotho Promise, Graff Jewelers. The picture right above shows an example what a excellent diamonds cut can get out of one big stone of the size of the Lesotho promise diamond. Diamond dealer Laurence Graff bought a pink diamond ring for over 46 million dollars at an auction in Geneva. The auction in a Geneva luxury hotel was done by Sotheby', the 24.78 Carat gem is one of the most beautiful in the world, Mr. Graff claimed. The ring with the pink diamond was last sold about 60 years ago and acquired by New York jeweler Harry Winston. Former price record holder was a 35.56 carat blue diamond, now called the Wittelsbach-Graff this fine piece was purchased in 2008 for over 24 million dollars.

Color diamonds are probably

the most beautiful and valuable jewelry today are color diamonds such as a pink diamond set in gold and the right diamonds cut give a perfect ring. One  can say a lot about carat and diamonds cut but today's fashion is tending to Princess cut and Asscher cut diamonds since they reflects the light like no other cut and they hide some impurities in a clever cutting manner. However in which direction you turn it, a diamond is the king of gemstone and a ruby gemstone is the undisputable queen.

Diamond Ruby is a great combination to form a good looking and creative piece of jewelry. The ruby give a mysterious deep red and the diamonds are sparkling, there is no fire in the ruby it wont matter how its cut and polished and that is what a diamond brings into. Sometimes there is a combination of blue and red means sapphire and gold ruby but

usually its with the white transparent stone.

A engagement ring with this setting plus maybe yellow gold is probably the ultimate gift to show feelings and appreciation. Rubies are often even higher valued considering the size and clarity than a similar sized and clear diamond, read more.

Traditionally, colorless and flawless stones fetch the higher prices.

This is changing, driven by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham,Jennifer Lopez and other. They have a great pink stones from the

from the Argyle Mine in Australia and they show it. Pink diamonds from that mine can fetch about 10 times the price as a normal white stone of similar quality and size. The stone right above costs as much as a nice fully equipped Rolls Royce.

By nature color diamonds are rare and expensive. During formation of the carbon deep inside the earth certain minerals were present as the carbon crystallized by pressure and heat. These minerals became trapped inside during the process of crystallizing of the carbon; the outcome of this process is a colored stone since this inclusions couldn't escape.

Usually pink diamonds have been mined in India, Brazil and Africa, but now the Argyle Diamond Mine is the largest producer of pink diamonds. The pink diamonds mined in India, Brazil and Africa come out from a geological formation called kimberlitic plates. In the Argyle mine pink diamonds come from a rock formation called lamproite.

Volcanic magmas solidify into kimberlite and lamproite but are not the source of diamonds. They are only the riser that bring them together with other minerals and mantle rocks to Earth's surface. Although rising from much greater depths than other magmas, these pipes and volcanic cones are quite small and rare.

It is not very clear what produces the pink hue. Some guess that the pink hue is a reflection from a crystal distortion. This would explain the florescent pink hue presence. Gemologists believe the pink hue is not created from any element trapped inside; it rather looks as if tiny abrasions along the diamonds multiple grains are responsible. The pink diamonds found in the Argyle diamond mine are clear under the microscopic which is rather unusual since every precious stone has some flows under the microscope, there are practically no flawless stones unless they are created diamond.

A famous pink diamond ring

these days mostly comes with a stone from the Argyle Mine in Australia and this colored stones looks real good.  A new pink diamond ring is the dream of many women including certain celebrities such as Madonna and others. Pink Asscher-cut engagement ring from Harry Winston are difficult to find but there are enough other jewelry stores who supply them in different qualities, sizes and colors since pink is not pink all the time, there plenty of shades of pink. This jewelry got a certain top status after the rumors spread that celebrities are buying them, they need plenty of cash since presently they come more or less only from one source, the Argyle Mine in Australia and if there is almost only one source of an item prices rise.

Pink diamonds are classified into five color grades, this are pink, brownish pink, orange pink, purplish pink and pink champagne. With the prospect of supply depletion by year 2017, the market can look forward to the fact that the already rare pink stone will remain a prized and rare collectors. Possibly subject to being considered as valuable as the famous diamonds that are currently displayed and kept by museums around the world.

Diamond jewelry including necklaces,

pendants and engagement rings are what they call -the girls best friends-. They look great have substantial value and are the catch of the eyes of the other women, since what gives a women more satisfaction as to show it to the have-nots.

Earrings and bands together with white gold, yellow gold or platinum are just the jewelry to get the heart of a lady beats much faster and maybe also a beautiful girl becomes more cooperative for some physical fun in various positions. A marvelous heart pendant, or maybe just some loose stones are just the right gift for the right person.

In the new age companies such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels,

Harry Winston and Tiffany are producing high end jewelry and they did a good job, but

sometimes not so good. I still have a Harry Winston timepiece called watch for about $ 10.000. It was, over years not possible to wear since Harry Winston cant fix a bracelet or band on it which would last for more than 3 month. I took this to Harry Winston in Geneva for repair, no way, they are too stupid to fix the band to the timepiece lasting for more than 3 month and this went on for about 12 years. Stay away from this company they are amateurs even worst than a watch band seller at the Patpong night market at Bangkok, where the Thai Bar Girls and go-go girls are. The guy fixed this in 15 minutes and after it was always ok, he took 2 dollars, Harry Winston takes $ 200,- and fixes nothing. Unfortunately they are not the only ones, in particular the online market is a place where many dealers play games with customers since usually people buying a ring, earrings or whatever have no much knowledge about jewelry.

More about diamond certification.

When buying gold rings

diamond necklace or similar be also very careful, because you are focused on this outstanding piece of princess cut diamond which finally is the center of the ring the company who makes the the ring know you wont be very bullish on the gold, so they mix a low level gold together. This is  rampant in Asian countries, in particular Thailand.

A jewelry price is the precious stone and the gold

or platinum, titanium or silver. Interestingly the purest gold they sell in the Gulf States and Switzerland, actually the Gulf States including Saudi Arabia usually purchase their gold and diamonds via Switzerland and not Antwerp or US because the business in Antwerp and the US is 100% in Jewish hands.

Famous diamonds

A number of diamonds are famous because of their beauty and adventurous past.Probably the most famous is the Hope Diamond. First seen in 1830 and was purchased 1830 by a banker with the name Hope.
